Pim Permpoolsombat (b. 1995) is a Thai artist based in Bangkok. Her work distills the essence of naturalism and dualism, expressed through painting, installation, photography, and sculpture. Defined by a lyrical abstraction style, her art emphasizes the spiritual journey and metaphysical exploration over visual outcomes. An empty state of mind is central to the transparency and sincerity in her creations, which emerge from a non-formulaic process.
Statement
I’m trying to convey something as meaningful as life itself. For me, creating an art piece feels like pouring my heart out. It’s my way of romanticizing existence in the deepest sense. When you look at my work, you see my soul—my history, childhood, and relationships— Honesty.
Self-love is essential, but independence can sometimes overshadow it. I see art as a bridge between our external realities and our inner worlds. Emptiness is a vital element in my work. It provides a moment of quietness to breathe and untangle things, paring down to the essence.
When I describe my work, I often rely on metaphors, as clear words can’t capture the unexplainable. I create art for art’s sake, with or without meaning—you decide. The message is revealed in subtle ways, waiting to be discovered when you’re not too eager for answers, just as no one questions why a bird sings.
